Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) presidential candidate Donald Duke has launched a scathing critique of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), labeling the electoral body a “monumental failure” and demanding an immediate pivot to a fully technology-driven voting system.
Speaking during an explosive interview in Abuja, the former Cross River State governor argued that the country’s continued reliance on manual, vulnerable electoral processes is an intentional lack of sincerity rather than a technical limitation. Pointing to the seamless nature of modern digital banking and electronic money transfers across long distances, Duke questioned why securing the ballot remains stuck in archaic methods.
“In a world where technology is so advanced, it’s a shame that we couldn’t devise a system that makes your votes to count. People are going to space and all that; we’re still doing this manual thing that can be manipulated. There’s no excuse for it,” Duke stated.
According to Duke, widespread public distrust in election results has triggered massive voter apathy, with citizens increasingly convinced that their participation changes nothing. He warned that without an independent and verifiable digital infrastructure that allows every voter to track and authenticate their ballot, Nigeria’s democratic framework remains a facade.
Recalling past administrative failures—such as the shocking last-minute postponement of the 2019 general elections just hours before polls opened—he noted that such debacles heavily drain party resources, exhaust hundreds of thousands of polling agents, and insult the collective integrity of Nigerians.
As the political landscape eyes the crucial 2027 cycle, Duke maintained that fixing the mechanics of democracy through transparent technology is non-negotiable if the nation is to break free from systemic regression.
