The political feud between Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senator Ireti Kingibe and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has reached boiling point, with the lawmaker boldly declaring that no minister—no matter how powerful—is above scrutiny or the law.
Firing back at recent verbal attacks and political threats from Wike, Kingibe made it clear that she will not be bullied, silenced, or distracted from performing her legislative duties. Responding directly to Wike’s claim that she won’t return to the Senate in 2027, the Labour Party lawmaker reminded the minister that the power to elect representatives belongs strictly to FCT voters, not an individual’s personal declaration.
The senator doubled down on her demand for accountability regarding the FCT Administration’s financial borrowings. Daring Wike to show transparency, Kingibe challenged the minister to publicly produce the official Senate Votes and Proceedings proving that the National Assembly ever approved the loans in question. She maintained that asking tough questions about public funds is part of her constitutional oath and should never be misconstrued as disrespect.
Kingibe also condemned systemic attempts to demean, silence, or intimidate women serving in public office simply because they refuse to compromise their principles or stay silent on governance issues. Reaffirming her unwavering commitment to the residents of Abuja, she declared: “I did not enter public service to be intimidated. I entered it to serve.”
