Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has once again emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State after securing a decisive victory in Tuesday’s rerun primary election.
The fresh primary exercise was conducted across the 11 local government areas of the state following a Federal High Court judgment that nullified the previous primary and ordered a fresh vote. Undeterred by the judicial setback, Pantami delivered a commanding performance at the polls, capturing about 80 percent of the total votes cast.
Official results announced at the PDP state secretariat revealed that Pantami polled 2,054 votes, overwhelmingly defeating his main rivals, Khamisu Ahmed Mailantarki, who scored 389 votes, and Usman Aliyu Garry, who managed 112 votes. Electoral officials commended the peaceful conduct of the delegates across all 114 wards, noting that the transparent rerun has put to rest the legal controversies surrounding the nomination process.
With the primary officially concluded, Pantami is now firmly positioned as the PDP standard-bearer ahead of the 2027 Gombe State governorship race. Party leaders and supporters have called for swift reconciliation among all aspirants to build a united front as the party prepares for the general election.
