Political tension in Oyo State has hit a boiling point ahead of the 2027 elections after the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation launched a scathing attack on Governor Seyi Makinde, accusing his administration of failing to tackle hunger despite receiving boosted federal allocation revenues.
The war of words erupted following comments made by Governor Makinde at a recent town hall meeting in Nasarawa State, where he described the increased monthly federal disbursements to states under President Bola Tinubu’s administration as inflationary “illusions” that have failed to lift citizens out of poverty.
Firing back in a fiery public statement, Senator Alli’s campaign team mocked the governor’s admission, arguing that it is ironic for Makinde to acknowledge collecting larger monthly allocations while simultaneously failing to cushion economic hardship for Oyo residents. The organisation questioned whether Governor Makinde expects President Tinubu to personally step into Oyo State to manage local resources and combat hunger on his behalf. Furthermore, the campaign accused the governor of suffocating local government administration by allegedly withholding council autonomy, urging voters across the state to reject Makinde’s political alignment and preferred successor come 2027.
As political maneuvering intensifies across the South-West, the heated exchange has reignited state-wide debate over accountability, revenue management, and council governance.
