Former Bayelsa State Governor and serving lawmaker representing Bayelsa West, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in patriotism, national unity, and faith in the country’s collective future as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence anniversary.
In an official Independence broadcast coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the creation of Bayelsa State, the Senator emphasized that the national milestone serves as a sober reminder to honor the sacrifices of Nigeria’s founding fathers by committing to nation-building. Acknowledging the severe economic hurdles and social pressures facing citizens across the country, Dickson expressed unshakeable confidence in the resilience of the Nigerian people and the untapped potential of the nation.
Addressing democratic governance and political stability, the former governor stressed that building a prosperous society requires deliberate efforts to strengthen democratic institutions, foster equal opportunities, and guarantee good governance at all tiers of leadership. He cautioned against political bitterness and divisive rhetoric, charging political actors to focus on genuine public service and national renewal as the country approaches future electoral seasons.
“Despite the prevailing challenges we face, I remain confident in the resilience of our people and the great potential of our country,” Dickson declared. “On this historic Independence Day, I urge us all to keep faith in Nigeria, embrace unity over division, and continue working together for the stronger, more prosperous nation we desire.”
Celebrating Bayelsa State’s 30-year journey since its creation in 1996, Dickson lauded the state’s significant contributions to the nation’s energy sector and economic growth, encouraging Bayelsans to remain proud, peaceful, and committed to sustainable development.
His uplifting charge has drawn praise across political circles, reinforcing calls for national cohesion and institutional reforms.
