The Nigerian film industry has been plunged into deep mourning following the sudden death of fast-rising Nollywood actor Chijioke Temidayo Nwokafor, popularly known as Cjay Nwoks.
The tragic news was broken in a tearful social media broadcast by popular actress and filmmaker Nkechi Blessing Sunday. Devastated by the loss, Nkechi Blessing revealed that Cjay Nwoks passed away at a medical facility in the Badore area of Lagos State. The heartbreak came just hours before the scheduled 5:00 PM premiere of her new movie, Egusi Ogbono, in which the late actor played the lead role. Out of respect for his memory, the premiere was immediately cancelled indefinitely.
Nkechi Blessing expressed her utter disbelief over the tragedy, sharing that she had spoken with the actor earlier that morning. “Cjay Nwoke Oma, so this is really the end? Omo we had plans. I spoke to you at 8 a.m. today and a few hours later you are no more with us,” she lamented.
Cjay Nwoks, who launched his professional acting career in 2021, featured in notable productions including Larry Cold, Mum Overnight, A Day To My Wedding, The Lies She Tells, and What Time Left. Following the tragic news, devastated fans and Nollywood colleagues flooded his social media page with emotional tributes and disbelief.
