Veteran Nollywood icon and celebrated actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has challenged Nigerians to move beyond constant complaining and actively contribute to fixing the nation’s pressing challenges.
Speaking at the maiden edition of the Pivot Nigeria conference held at the MUSON Centre in Lagos under the theme “The Reputation Dividend: Who Pays for Nigeria’s Perception?”, the respected film legend emphasized that the country’s international image is shaped not only by political leadership but also by the daily actions, narrative choices, and attitudes of its citizens.
Addressing the audience on national perception and individual responsibility, RMD argued that while Nigeria faces significant hurdles, continuous condemnation without practical solutions only degrades the nation’s global standing. He noted that citizens must balance demanding transparency and accountability from elected officials with taking ownership of their role in rebuilding society.
“We are too quick to condemn us. There are problems, but we need to fix them. Don’t stand and just criticise and then proffer no solution,” RMD asserted. “It does not excuse our shortcomings, but it speaks to the fact that we should be patient. We are a work in progress, and we must continue doing the work.”
The thought-provoking address has reignited nationwide conversations across digital platforms regarding civic duty, media representation, and the collective effort required to shape Nigeria’s future positively.
