Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has demanded the immediate release of former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, asserting that Kaduna remains central to the opposition’s strategic victory plans heading into the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in Abuja while hosting the Kaduna State leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku voiced strong opposition to El-Rufai’s continued detention, characterizing it as unfair political persecution. Emphasizing his longstanding political relationship and goodwill among the people of Kaduna, Atiku declared that the state serves as a pivotal battleground for the opposition coalition. He urged party leaders and grassroots mobilizers to pull out all the stops to secure at least one million votes from Kaduna State in the upcoming presidential race.
Reiterating the need for vigilance at the polls, Atiku warned against voter inducement and urged the ADC structures to guard their votes fiercely to ensure a transparent electoral outcome.
The strong declaration has sparked intense political dialogue across northern political circles as party stakeholders recalibrate their mobilization strategies.
