The long-running political feud between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and former Transportation Minister Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has taken a sharp and personal turn following fierce comments over family and governance.
Speaking during a political gathering in Rivers State, Wike strongly criticized Amaechi for allegedly using his late mother’s memory to gain political sympathy ahead of the 2027 general elections. Wike’s fiery response came after Amaechi publicly claimed that economic hardship under President Bola Tinubu’s administration made it difficult to purchase medication for his late mother, Dame Mary Amaechi.
Wike rejected the former governor’s claims, pointing out that Amaechi held top political positions for 24 years—serving as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly for eight years, Governor for eight years, and Cabinet Minister for another eight years. Wike questioned how someone with such a long career in public leadership could claim he lacked resources for medical care.
“It is unfortunate that people can descend so low to use their mother to play politics,” Wike declared. He urged his long-time rival to respect his late mother’s memory, adding, “How can you bring a loved one who’s gone into politics? All of us should pray that the old woman who died would have rest and peace with her Creator”.
The verbal exchange marks another intense chapter in the decades-long rivalry between the two Rivers State political heavyweights as alignment shifts shape the nation’s political landscape.
