The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially announced the appointment of 56-year-old Suleiman Danlami Kum as the new Head of the Nigeria National Office (HNO).
The high-profile appointment was confirmed in a formal statement by Moyosola F. Adesina, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC Nigeria. Kum succeeds Dr. Amos Dangut, whose tenure expired on October 1, 2026, following his elevated appointment as the Council’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer.
Kum brings nearly three decades of administrative experience, technological innovation, and test development expertise to his new executive role. Having joined WAEC in July 1998 as an Assistant Registrar II, he rose through the administrative ranks across multiple zonal and branch offices, including key leadership stints in Awka, Yola, Makurdi, Gusau, Kano, Port Harcourt, and Lagos.
Before his appointment as HNO, Kum served as Senior Deputy Registrar in charge of Test Administration and Deputy Registrar in the Office of the Head of the National Office. Throughout his career, he spearheaded crucial institutional modernizations, including the deployment of facial-recognition biometric attendance devices and the expansion of Computer-Based Examination (CBE) delivery modes for council assessment tests.
A graduate of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, with advanced qualifications from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Kum is widely recognized within educational circles for his uncompromising stance on examination integrity, operational efficiency, and candidate-centric reforms.
Students, parents, and academic stakeholders across Nigeria are eagerly anticipating how Kum’s tech-forward leadership will transform national examinations going forward.
