“103 Million and Counting!” — INEC Sets Friday for Nationwide PVC Collection Ahead of 2027

Nigeria’s democratic machinery is revving into high gear ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) revealing that the national voters register has officially surged past 103 million registered citizens.

The electoral umpire confirmed the massive numerical milestone during a media briefing in Abuja, outlining key updates to the 2027 electoral timetable. To ensure that newly registered voters and those who applied for transfers or card replacements can exercise their franchise, INEC announced that nationwide collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will officially kick off this Friday, October 9, 2026.

The commission noted that collection centers will operate daily across all 774 local government area offices and designated registration areas nationwide, allowing registered voters to pick up their physical cards ahead of upcoming off-cycle polls and the major 2027 general election. Electoral officials emphasized that strict verification procedures, including biometric checks, will be enforced to prevent proxy collections and maintain voter roll integrity.

With voter education campaigns ramping up across civil society and political parties mobilizing grassroots supporters, the historic 103 million figure highlights growing civic engagement—particularly among young Nigerians eager to shape the nation’s political landscape.

INEC urges all eligible citizens to locate their designated collection points early, avoid last-minute rushes, and ensure they secure their primary power tool for the ballot box.
