The Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) has officially honoured the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) following the nation’s historic qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
This continental recognition comes on the heels of a thrilling campaign where the Nigerian women’s beach volleyball team clinched their first-ever Olympic ticket by defeating Morocco 2-0 in the grand final of the African Beach Volleyball Championship. The landmark triumph snapped a 16-year wait and three previous silver-medal heartbreaks, solidifying Nigeria’s position at the pinnacle of African beach volleyball.
Accepting the award on behalf of the federation, NVBF President Engineer Musa Nimrod expressed profound gratitude to CAVB President Bouchra Hajij and the continental governing board. Nimrod described the honour as a powerful moral booster that will inspire players, coaches, and administrators to rededicate themselves to early preparation ahead of the global showpiece in Los Angeles.
To ensure African representatives shine on the world stage, the CAVB Beach Volleyball Commission announced an action-packed 2027 calendar featuring high-level international tours designed to sharpen players’ competitive edge before LA 2028.
With momentum fully on their side, Nigerian sports fans are rallying behind the sand queens as they prepare to take on the world’s best on the Olympic stage.
