Veteran Nollywood action film legend Hanks Anuku has stirred up intense online debate after making a passionate appeal to citizens to exercise patience with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking during a recent interview appearance, the iconic movie bad-boy argued that the socio-economic challenges currently confronting the nation were inherited from previous political leaders rather than created overnight by the incumbent president.
“Nigeria has to be patient for the renewed hope of this man. The country was not spoilt by him, you know. There were people there before him. Why didn’t they go and attack those people?” Anuku remarked. “He has to fix it now. He is doing great. Nigeria should be patient, we are too much in a hurry.”
Refuting widespread speculation that his public endorsement of the president was financially motivated, the actor insisted that he speaks purely out of personal conviction and realistic assessment. He cautioned that rushing to replace leaders often backfires on the populace, noting that “the devil you know is better than the unknown.”
The high-profile endorsement comes alongside Anuku opening up about his personal road to recovery following personal grief, loss, and betrayal by close associates in recent years. His blunt commentary has since triggered fierce back-and-forth reactions across social media, with citizens divided over his defense of current economic reforms.
