Electoral Firestorm: INEC Faces Ultimatum And Multi-Billion Damage Claims From Excluded Candidates

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is facing serious legal heat after leaving several prominent politicians off its official candidates list, sparking sharp ultimatums and massive multi-billion naira lawsuits!

Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Pantami, has issued a strict 72-hour ultimatum to INEC demanding the immediate restoration of his name as the PDP governorship candidate for Gombe State.

Pantami’s legal team insisted that he legally won a court-ordered rerun primary monitored directly by INEC officials, warning that failing to publish his name by Wednesday, October 14, will trigger immediate legal action.

Simultaneously, Dr. Austin Orette, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) senatorial candidate for Delta South, has dragged the commission to court, seeking ₦1 billion in punitive damages after his name was omitted despite completing all statutory nomination procedures.

Orette accused the electoral umpire of gross negligence that completely derailed his campaign across six local government areas, leaving his supporters stranded and throwing his political future into uncertainty.

The rising legal battles follow reports that INEC screened out several candidates over strict compliance checks with electronic party registers following recent apex court rulings on political party membership.
