Headies Announces New Dates for Toronto Awards Finale

Fans looking forward to the next international edition of The Headies will have to adjust their plans after organisers announced that the awards’ Toronto finale has been moved to April 2027.

In an announcement published on the awards’ official website, organisers said the 18th edition’s Toronto finale will now take place on April 10 and 11, 2027. The revised programme will combine the awards with the Headies Global Trade and Investment Summit, bringing music, business and industry conversations together.

The event is being organised under the theme “Africa to the World,” reflecting the organisers’ ambition to connect African music and creative talent with international audiences and commercial opportunities.

Although the finale has been rescheduled, activities leading up to The Headies are expected to continue. According to the organisers, workshops, seminars and other industry engagements will connect artists, nominees and stakeholders ahead of the Toronto programme.

The Headies has grown from its Nigerian music awards roots into an event seeking a wider international presence. The Toronto edition represents another step in that expansion, with organisers aiming to create more opportunities for music professionals, investors and businesses to connect across markets.

The addition of the Global Trade and Investment Summit also signals an interest in looking beyond awards and performances. The programme is designed to encourage conversations about investment, partnerships and the business potential of Africa’s creative industries.

Organisers acknowledged that changing the dates could inconvenience people who had already made travel arrangements or other commitments. They apologised and said further information about the schedule, venues and participation would be communicated through official channels.

For musicians and fans, the rescheduling means the wait for the Toronto finale will be longer than initially expected. However, the expanded programme could offer more opportunities to celebrate African music and build international connections.

Anyone planning to attend should check The Headies’ official channels for confirmed details before making or changing travel arrangements.
