The sudden death of Nigerian gospel singer Toluwanisings has left fans and the gospel music community in shock, as his personal assistant, Babadunni Gbolabo, has shared a heartbreaking account of the singer’s final moments.
Toluwanisings, whose real name was Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, reportedly showed no obvious signs of illness before he suddenly slumped in Ibadan, Oyo State, in the early hours of Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
Speaking about the tragic incident, Gbolabo said he was not present when the singer collapsed but rushed to the scene after receiving a call. According to him, those around the gospel minister attempted to revive him before desperately seeking medical assistance.
“He was very fine and in perfect condition. He just slumped,” the aide reportedly said while recounting the incident.
In an especially disturbing revelation, Gbolabo claimed that efforts to save the singer took them to between seven and eight hospitals in Ibadan. He alleged that some facilities failed to admit the singer, while others reportedly cited the unavailability of doctors due to an ongoing strike.
Despite the frantic search for medical attention and attempts to revive him, the singer could not be saved. The account has sparked fresh concerns about emergency healthcare access and the challenges families face when seeking urgent treatment in Nigeria.
Toluwanisings’ death came as a shock to fans, particularly because he had reportedly ministered at a worship programme shortly before his passing. His family confirmed his death but did not disclose an official cause.
Known for his gospel music ministry and songs that touched the lives of worshippers, Toluwanisings leaves behind grieving family members, colleagues and admirers. Tributes have continued to emerge as fans reflect on his contribution to gospel music.
While his personal assistant’s account has shed light on the desperate efforts made during his final hours, the exact medical cause of death has not been publicly established.
The heartbreaking story has also reignited conversations about the importance of accessible emergency medical services and the need for hospitals to respond effectively to critical cases.
May his soul rest in peace, and may God comfort his family, friends and the gospel music community during this difficult time.
