Champions League Drama: PSG Beat Barcelona 4-2 as Lookman Shines for Atletico

Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League action delivered goals, late drama and standout performances from Nigerian players, with Paris Saint-Germain defeating Barcelona 4-2 in a thrilling encounter.

Barcelona twice fought back to level the contest, but PSG found another gear in the closing stages to claim a memorable victory and end the Spanish side’s 11-match winning streak.

Desire Doue opened the scoring for PSG in the 38th minute after capitalising on a Barcelona mistake. Xavi Espart restored parity in the 55th minute, before Lucas Hernandez put the French side ahead again with a header in the 72nd minute.

Lamine Yamal responded for Barcelona in the 79th minute, bringing the score to 2-2 and setting up a tense finish.

However, Vitinha restored PSG’s advantage just two minutes later, and Fabian Ruiz added the fourth goal in the 86th minute to complete the victory.

The result underlined PSG’s attacking quality while exposing defensive weaknesses that Barcelona will need to address.

Nigerian fans also had reason to follow the wider Champions League action. Ademola Lookman came off the bench at half-time to help Atletico Madrid secure a 1-1 draw away to Stuttgart, providing the assist for Julian Alvarez’s equaliser.

Elsewhere, Emmanuel Ayaosi assisted Slavia Prague’s late equaliser in a 2-2 draw against Fenerbahce.

These performances highlight the growing presence of Nigerian footballers across European competitions, where individual contributions can make a major difference on the biggest nights.

For Barcelona, the defeat will be frustrating after twice recovering from behind. For PSG, it is a major statement of intent in the competition.

With the league phase continuing, both teams will need to respond quickly as the battle for qualification and a favourable position in the standings intensifies.
