Sowore Raises Questions Over Government’s Handling of Reported Ebola Case

Human rights activist and African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has called on the Tinubu administration to provide greater transparency over Nigeria’s reported Ebola case.

Sowore questioned the government’s handling of the situation and urged authorities to strengthen disease surveillance, communicate clearly with the public and ensure that a public-health concern is not used for political purposes.

The comments bring public health into the political conversation at a time when Nigerians need reliable information about potential health risks. In situations involving infectious diseases, clear communication from health authorities is essential to prevent confusion, rumours and unnecessary fear.

Sowore’s criticism is a political position, however, and should not be treated as proof of wrongdoing by the government. The facts surrounding the reported case and the response to it need to be established through credible public-health information.

For the government, the challenge is to explain what is known, what measures are being taken and where members of the public can obtain verified guidance. For political leaders and commentators, the responsibility is to scrutinise the response without spreading unsupported claims.

The issue could remain part of the national conversation as Nigerians seek reassurance that public-health concerns are being handled transparently and professionally.
