LA28: Nigeria Targets Podium Success With New Olympic Preparation Drive

Nigeria has intensified preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, with the National Sports Commission stressing early planning and better coordination as the country works towards a stronger performance.

The preparation drive is being led under the leadership of NSC chairman Bukola Olopade, with the commission highlighting athlete development, strategic planning and coordination among sporting bodies as important priorities.

The Olympics are scheduled to take place in Los Angeles from July 14 to 30, 2028. Although the competition is still some distance away, starting early gives Nigeria more time to identify promising athletes, assess training requirements and develop a structured preparation programme.

For Nigerian sports fans, the announcement raises hopes that lessons from previous international competitions can translate into better planning and stronger performances on the global stage.

However, turning ambition into medals requires more than announcements. Athletes need consistent coaching, access to facilities, adequate funding, international competition and reliable support throughout their preparation.

The coming months will therefore be important in determining how effectively the plans are implemented and how Nigeria’s sporting federations contribute to the overall effort.

With the next Olympics approaching, Nigerian supporters will be watching to see whether this early preparation produces the results the country is targeting.
