Osimhen Ends Galatasaray’s Away-Day Struggles With Goal Against Lille

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen delivered a memorable performance as Galatasaray defeated Lille 4–2 away from home in the UEFA Champions League, earning the official Player of the Match award in the process.

The Super Eagles forward scored his first Champions League goal of the campaign, helping the Turkish champions secure a vital victory after a difficult run of away results in the competition.

Galatasaray’s evening was not without drama. The visitors took the lead through Yunus Akgün, but Lille fought back through Soriba Diaoune, who scored twice. Aleksey Batrakov also found the net as the French side threatened to take control.

However, Galatasaray responded strongly after the break. Lucas Torreira restored their advantage before Osimhen delivered the decisive goal that helped put the match beyond Lille’s reach.

For Osimhen, the occasion carried extra significance because he previously played for Lille during the 2019–2020 season. Despite scoring against his former club, the Nigerian chose not to celebrate his goal.

The victory gave Galatasaray a much-needed boost in their European campaign, while Osimhen’s performance reinforced his importance to the team. His energy, movement and ability to trouble defenders made him a constant threat throughout the contest.

Nigerian fans will be hoping the striker carries this form into upcoming matches for both club and country. If he continues delivering on Europe’s biggest stage, he could play a major role in Galatasaray’s ambitions this season.
