Alex Iwobi has achieved another impressive milestone in English football after moving ahead of Mohamed Salah to become the African player with the second-highest number of Premier League appearances.
The Fulham midfielder reached 329 appearances after featuring in his club’s 1-1 draw against Aston Villa, moving clear of Salah in the all-time African rankings.
Iwobi has built his Premier League record across three clubs: Arsenal, Everton and Fulham. His consistency over the years has helped him become one of the most experienced Nigerian players in the competition.
But the Super Eagles star is not interested in stopping at second place.
The record is currently held by former Ivory Coast international Kolo Toure, who has 354 Premier League appearances. Iwobi is now just 25 matches away from taking that position.
Speaking about the achievement, the Nigerian made it clear that he wants to keep looking forward and challenge for the top spot.
At just 29, Iwobi still has time to add to his impressive numbers. If he maintains his place in Fulham’s starting line-up, he could make African Premier League history.
For Nigerian football supporters, it is another achievement worth celebrating. Iwobi may not always dominate the headlines, but his longevity and consistency in one of the world’s toughest leagues deserve recognition.
