CAF Awards: Super Falcons Absent From Top Women’s Player Nomination List

Nigerian football fans have been left with questions after no Super Falcons player was included in the 2026 CAF Women’s Player of the Year shortlist.

The development has attracted attention because Nigeria remains one of Africa’s most successful women’s football nations, with the Super Falcons having won a record 10 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations titles.

Although Nigeria is represented in other categories, the absence of a Falcons player from the leading individual women’s award category is a notable talking point.

The nominations have also renewed discussions about how performances at club and international levels are evaluated when CAF selects its award contenders.

The Super Falcons have continued to produce players who compete at major clubs around the world, making the omission particularly disappointing for supporters who expected Nigerian representation in the category.

However, the CAF Awards cover several areas of African football, and Nigerian names are still appearing in other categories.
