Atiku Refuses to Back Down After Court Ruling Rocks ADC

Nigeria’s political scene has been thrown into fresh controversy after a Federal High Court in Abuja nullified the process that produced former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.

The judgment also invalidated the David Mark-led ADC National Working Committee, including the emergence of Rauf Aregbesola as the party’s National Secretary.

The case was instituted by Nafiu Bala Gombe, a former ADC deputy national chairman, who challenged the process through which the party leadership emerged.

The ruling has created uncertainty for the opposition party at a critical moment in its preparations for the next general election. Atiku, however, has refused to back down, describing the judgment as one he intends to challenge at the Court of Appeal.

His campaign team has also indicated that it will pursue legal options, including seeking a stay of execution where appropriate.

For Nigerians following the 2027 political race, the big question is whether the ADC can resolve its leadership crisis quickly enough to maintain its momentum.

One thing is certain: the battle for Nigeria’s presidency has taken another dramatic turn.
