Nigeria vs Japan: Flamingos Chase First-Ever U-17 Women’s World Cup Trophy

Nigeria’s Flamingos are just one victory away from becoming world champions, and the excitement across the country is building ahead of Saturday’s historic FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final against Japan.

The young Nigerian side booked their place in the final after producing a brilliant 3-1 victory over Brazil in Wednesday’s semi-final in Morocco. Queen Joseph opened the scoring in the 56th minute before Awawu Bashiru took over with two goals in the 71st and 80th minutes. Brazil managed a late consolation, but Nigeria had already done enough to secure a memorable victory.

The achievement is historic. The Flamingos have become the first African team to reach the final of the FIFA U-17 Women’s Women’s World Cup.

Their journey has not been without challenges. Nigeria lost its opening match against Poland but recovered impressively, defeating strong opponents along the way to reach the final.

Japan will provide a difficult test, having also enjoyed an impressive campaign. The final will take place on Saturday, November 7, at 7:30 p.m. Nigerian time in Rabat, Morocco.

President Bola Tinubu and CAF President Patrice Motsepe have congratulated the team, while Nigerians at home and abroad are rallying behind the young players.

The girls have already made history. Now, they have an opportunity to make it unforgettable by bringing the trophy home.
