2027 Politics: Tinubu Says Atiku and Past Leaders Caused Economic Hardship

President Bola Tinubu has reignited the political debate over Nigeria’s economic hardship after blaming former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and other past leaders for the hunger currently affecting millions of Nigerians.

Speaking at the APC presidential campaign rally in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Saturday, Tinubu argued that the country’s economic challenges did not begin under his administration.

The President accused Atiku and other former leaders of failing to build the country during their years in government, insisting that those now criticising his administration had previously held positions of power.

Tinubu also defended his government’s economic direction, saying it was investing in agriculture, food production and job creation to address hunger.

However, the comments are likely to generate fresh reactions from opposition politicians and Nigerians who believe the current administration must take responsibility for the economic conditions citizens are experiencing today.

With the 2027 presidential election approaching, the cost of living is already becoming one of the biggest issues shaping political conversations.

For voters, the argument is no longer just about who caused the country’s problems. They want to know who has a convincing plan to make food affordable, improve incomes and restore economic confidence.
