Everton put out a dominant and impressive show in Saturday’s Merseyside derby performance to beat Liverpool at Anfield for the first time since 1999, lighting up the Everton dressing room and all but compounding the Premier League defending champion’s miseries which have now lost four successive home matches for the first time since 1923.
The visitors took the lead three minutes into the game courtesy of Richarlison’s strike. A leader, the Blue half of Merseyside, maintained into the break.
After the break, the host tried to get into the game, but Sadio Mane wasted two while Pickford kept out Salah’s effort with a superb save.
Everton got the chance to increase the tally with seven minutes left to play, and Gylfi Sigurdsson made no mistakes from the spot, and that was just enough to seal a first derby win for Everton in 24 attempts.
As the saying you are as good as your last game couldn’t save Klopp’s men who went into the game on the back of midweek victory in the champions league, they’ll be looking for redemption when they travel to Sheffield United on Sunday, February 28 while Everton will host Southampton on Monday, March 1.
