After the break, Ronaldo put the European Champions in front, taking his international goal tally to 103.
Joao Palhinha sealed the win with an 80th header.
As bad nights go, Luxembourg had a really rough one, as they got reduced to 10 men as Maxime Chanot was shown a second yellow for a foul on Renato Sanches with just few minutes left to stoppage time.
The win moved Portugal to the top of Group A levelled on 7 points with Serbia, with whom they shared points over the weekend in a controversial 2-2 draw.
