A depleted Real Madrid without Captain Sergio Ramos and defender, Varane, made the absence of their defensive powerhouses look like absolutely nothing, as they outwitted Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool with a 3-1 win in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday.
The Reds were primarily second best in a game that saw Real’s impressive attacking bunch reign superior, with
Vinicius Junior’s and Marco Asensio giving the host the lead in the first half.
Liverpool sprang into life after the break and, for a second, looked light. They were about to pull a come back when Mo Salah pulled one back, but a second goal by Vinicius wiped out any hope of a dramatic come back for the visitors.
Despite the away go, Jurgen Klopp, and his boys are now left with a lot to do when they welcome Real Madrid to Anfield for the return leg on April 14. And football fans can’t wait to see if, like against Barcelona in 2019, The Reds will pull off a comeback and send Zidane’s boys packing or, like the 2018 finals, Real Madrid will show Liverpool the exit.
Manchester City vs Borussia Dortmund
Elsewhere on Tuesday, Manchester City saw off a stubborn Dortmund side thanks to Kevin de Bruyne and Phil Foden’s goals.
The game was one of the equals as Dortmund responded to De Bruyne’s opener, thanks to Marco Reus’ second half fantastic finish, after having Jude Bellingham’s goal controversially disallowed earlier in the game.
The game looked like it would end all squared until Foden grab a late minute winner for Pep’s side.
The vital away goal will come in handy for Dortmund when they welcome the Citizens to German next month with the hope of scaling through to the Semis.
