Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool got a much needed boost in the race to finish in the top four and book a Champions League spot for next season, thanks to a massive 4-2 comeback victory over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United at Old Trafford on Thursday.
The game which was postponed from last week due to an invasion at Old Trafford by protesting Manchester United fans’ was a thrilling one played amidst noise from protesting fans outside the stadium.
Off to a bright start, United took the lead through Bruno Fernandes’ deflected opener.
However, the lead wasn’t long-lived as Diogo Jota pulled one back for the visitors before Roberto Firmino doubled Liverpool’s lead at the brink of halftime.
After the break, the Brazilian increased the margin, before Marcus Rashford pulled one back for United midway through the second half, giving the Red Devils hopes of getting back into the game, but all of that was squashed when Mohamed Salah wrapped up the points with a late strike.
The victory, Manchester United’s sixth home defeat of the season, moved Liverpool fifth in the Premier League, providing them with a glimmer of hope as they battle Chelsea and Leicester City for a top four finish.
