Former Juventus player, Andrea Pirlo, lifted his first major trophy as a manager, as Juventus beat Atalanta 2-1 in the Coppa Italia final on Wednesday to clinch the title for a 14th time.
Victory was achieved thanks to goals from Dejan Kulusevkai and Federico Chiesa, in both halves of the game.
Kulusevski had given Juventus a first-half lead with a classy curling effort before Ruslan Malinovskyi levelled for Atalanta, however it was Juventus who are currently fifth in Seria A, following a rather abysmal season and looked set to finish a season with a trophy with lifting the Scudetto for nine successive seasons, that eventually had the best laugh.
The defeat saw Atalanta lose a second final in three seasons after their 2019 defeat by Lazio.
The final was played in front of 4,300 fans at Sassuolo’s Mapei Stadium, for the first in about a year following fans’ absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and really meant a lot to Pirlo and his boys.
