Actress Scarlet Gomez has revealed she underwent therapy to detach from her role as the ruthless Wura Amoo-Adeleke.
Speaking on the Paul and Baaj in Character podcast (April 5, 2026), the actress shared that the psychological weight of playing the lead in the hit series Wura began to seep into her real-world personality.
When “Wura” Took Over
Gomez described a “deeply unsettling” shift in her behavior that lingered long after the cameras stopped rolling.
- The Turning Point: The actress realized she needed help when her husband pointed out that she had become “insensitive” in her everyday responses.
- The Blurred Lines: She recounted a chilling moment on a different set where she was meant to play a victim. When a co-star spoke to her, she found herself thinking, “Do you know who I am? I can just kill you now, and nobody will find your body.”
- The “Number One” Effect: Having been called “Number One” by fans and crew for so long, she admitted she began to truly feel like the untouchable character she portrayed.
The Challenge of Detaching
Gomez emphasized that while actors often focus on “getting into character,” the process of getting out is much harder, especially with a long-running series like Wura (which is currently airing its fourth season on Africa Magic).
“Getting into a character is easier than getting out of a character, especially when you’ve played it for a long time,” she remarked.
She credits a combination of professional therapy and a strong support system of family and friends for helping her reclaim her own identity and stay grounded as her career hits new heights.
