Adebutu Welcomes 1,000 APC Defectors, Says INEC List Controversy Won’t Stop Him

The political battle for Ogun State is gathering momentum ahead of the 2027 governorship election, with PDP chieftain Oladipupo Adebutu receiving more than 1,000 defectors from the ruling APC.

The defectors were reportedly led by former House of Representatives member Segun William and were welcomed at the PDP state secretariat in Abeokuta.

Adebutu used the occasion to address the controversy surrounding the omission of his name from INEC’s published list of governorship candidates.

Rather than allowing the issue to slow down his political activities, the PDP governorship hopeful described it as a temporary distraction and insisted that he remained a bona fide member of the party.

He also expressed confidence that the matter would be resolved, urging supporters not to lose focus as the party continues its mobilisation.

The development is another indication that political alignments in Ogun State could change significantly before the next election.

With prominent politicians switching camps and candidates facing nomination-related challenges, the 2027 governorship contest is already shaping up to be an interesting battle.

The big question is whether the latest wave of defections will translate into actual votes when Ogun residents head to the polls.
