The All Progressives Congress (APC), according to its national chairman, Alhaji Abdulahi Ganduje, has started taking steps to de-marginalize Igbos in order to bring them into the centre of national politics.
Ganduje declared on Sunday during the APC South East zonal gathering in Abakaliki, “Igbos have shown massive support to the party and the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu.”
The national head of the APC stated that the party has made the decision to end the vicious cycle of marginalisation, even if a distinction must be made between marginalisation and the southeast’s poor performance inside the party.
“The present appointments offered the zone by President Bola Tinubu’s administration is heartwarming and with more involvement in the party’s affairs, more would be achieved.
“We must break this cycle of marginalisation with determination, unity and total support to the party and President Bola Tinubu-led administration, he said.
He commended Gov. Francis Nwifuru for upholding the party’s principles in the state and pointed out that Ebonyi had followed Imo’s lead in heavily endorsing the party’s endeavours.
He noted that Ebonyi had followed Imo’s trail in massively promoting the party’s activities and thanked Gov. Francis Nwifuru for sustaining the party’s ideals in the state.
“The challenge before us presently is how to claim Anambra, Enugu and Abia and must get all stakeholders together to achieve this goal.
The governor of Ebonyi, Francis Nwifuru, praised the leaders of the party for holding the meeting in the state, pointing out that the party now has its roots in the southeast and the state. Nwifuru pointed out that Ebonyi’s inclusive policies had led to the current APC leadership among all state stakeholders.
“The massive defection of opposition stakeholders to APC on July 13 attests to the fact that persuasion works more than bickering and fighting,” he said.
In his remarks, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma stated that it is an unfortunate coincidence that the APC is in power in Nigeria during these difficult times brought on by the global financial crisis.
According to the South East Governors Forum Chairman, a large number of the nation’s residents endure terrible suffering, with some even falling into poverty.
“People have to know that there is global economic meltdown with some currencies exchanging 15,000 and 20,000 to one dollar.
“I however, have hope that if the tested policies of President Bola Tinubu administration, are well implemented, Nigerians would receive the much needed succour, he said.
In his speech, Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, urged residents in the southeast to support efforts by the federal government to demarginalize the area.
“President Bola Tinubu has given Ndigbo more than the vote cast for him during the elections.
“It is presently left for us to repay him for his good works because when ones shows appreciation, he gets more.”
“The process for the south east development commission bill which would solve the numerous challenges confronting Igbos, has been finalised and awaiting the president’s accent , he said.
