AY Warns Nigerians: “Stop Comparing Your Life to Fake Social Media Lifestyles”

Nigerian comedian and filmmaker Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has urged Nigerians to stop comparing themselves to luxurious lifestyles displayed on social media, describing most of them as fake and staged for attention.

In a video shared on his Instagram page on Thursday, AY said many people are falling into depression and unnecessary pressure because they believe everything they see online.

He explained that social media often promotes a false sense of success, where people flaunt designer outfits, luxury cars, and exotic trips just to impress followers.

According to him, many of those flashy lifestyles are sponsored illusions created to gain likes, followers, or brand deals.

“Many of these celebrities you envy are living on borrowed wigs, borrowed outfits, and borrowed lifestyles. Some take pictures in hotel lobbies and call them their new homes, while others pose with cars that don’t belong to them.
Social media is like a movie set; not everything you see online is real,” AY said.

The comedian revealed that some influencers even borrow items or stage photoshoots to appear successful, warning fans not to measure their progress by what they see online.

He encouraged Nigerians to be content and focus on personal growth instead of chasing fake standards.

“Grow at your own pace. Live within your means and be true to yourself. Life is not a competition,” he added.

AY’s message has sparked conversations online, with many praising him for speaking out against fake social media pressure.
