Reality TV star Natacha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has sparked fresh conversation about the future of Big Brother Naija after suggesting that the organisers should take a break and rethink the show’s format.
Speaking on Arise 360, Tacha argued that entertainment habits have changed significantly since BBNaija first became a major talking point in Nigeria. According to her, social media now competes strongly with television programmes for the attention of viewers who can find entertainment, celebrity conversations and viral controversies online at any time.
Tacha believes a temporary pause could give the organisers an opportunity to develop fresh concepts instead of repeating a format audiences already know. She also suggested that allowing viewers to miss the programme might help rebuild anticipation for its eventual return.
Her comments are likely to divide fans. For some viewers, BBNaija remains one of Nigeria’s biggest reality television brands, capable of turning contestants into celebrities and generating weeks of conversations. Others may agree that the show needs new twists to keep pace with the fast-moving digital entertainment space.
Tacha knows the BBNaija experience firsthand. She rose to fame during the 2019 Pepper Dem edition, although her participation ended after she was disqualified following a physical altercation with fellow housemate Mercy Eke. Since then, she has built a career beyond reality television, exploring business, fashion and other entertainment ventures.
Her argument raises a question for the show’s organisers: should BBNaija maintain its familiar formula, or take a bold step toward reinvention? With audiences increasingly drawn to online content, the answer could shape the programme’s next chapter.
