17 PDP Governor Aspirants Meets Wike

A group of about 17 PDP governor aspirants on Tuesday met privately with Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State.

According to reports, the candidates arrived in Port Harcourt at around 8 o’clock and entered the meeting with their host right away.

The governorship candidates from Katsina, Sokoto, Jigawa, Kaduna, and 13 other states met with Wike at his home in Rumueprikon, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, according to a source in Government House, Port Harcourt.

Despite the fact that what was discussed in the meeting was kept confidential, there were hints that it might have been related to the 2023 elections and the party’s prospects in light of the current crisis that is wreaking havoc on it.

The source, who requested anonymity, claimed that the contenders were pleading with Wike to back Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate, and his running mate, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, and the party’s national chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.

He claimed that they pleaded with Governor Wike to pardon Atiku and support other PDP figures who may have displeased him in some way.

Over two hours were reportedly spent in the meeting.

Since the PDP’s presidential primaries, which selected Atiku as the party’s nominee, the governor of Rivers State has been incensed.

Since then, several top politicians across various parties have continued to visit Wike to seek his support.
