2023 Golden Globes ceremony hits a low all-time NBC rating (See winners full list)

A year after they were left with no TV broadcast, no media presence and no celebrities, the 80th edition of the Golden Globes returned to TV via NBC and Peacock.

After taking the award show off the airwaves in 2022 due to backlash, the 2023 edition was held January 10 and boasted historic wins that included Angela Bassett, ‘Abbott Elementary,’ and Eddie Murphy was presented with the Cecil B. DeMille Award.

Angela Bassett who won the Golden Globe for best supporting actress for her regal role in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, used her speech to pay a moving tribute to her late Black Panther co-star, Chadwick Boseman.

“We were surrounded each and every day by the light and the spirit of Chadwick Boseman,” she said. “With this historic Black Panther series, is part of his legacy that he helped to lead us to. We showed the world what black unity, leadership, and love look like beyond, behind, and in front of the camera.”

Also, the Cecil B. DeMille Award to Eddie Murphy, recognizing the long, funny and successful career of one of the top superstars of the 1980s, who in recent years has become a highly respected actor in Hollywood.

Despite the show’s absence from the airwaves, the 2023 edition returned this week without the expected bang.

According to an entertainment website, ThatGrapeJuice, despite securing a viewership of 6.3 million, the ‘Globes’ finished the rating race as the night’s second most-watched program – falling behind CBS’ hit series, ‘FBI‘ (which garnered an audience of 7.4 million).

Marking the lowest number of views ever for the ceremony, the sum represents only a third of the size of 2020’s 18.3 million ‘Globes’ viewers.
