2023: Group Demands Igbo President

A group has stormed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja in protest, demanding that the party’s presidential ticket be zoned to the south.

The group noted that the north had enjoyed the presidency for two terms. The protesters carried placards with inscriptions such as “promote unity, shift power to the south” and “save democracy, shift power to the south”.

In a related development, the Igbo Elders Consultative Forum has asked that the presidential ticket be zoned to the southeast.

The Igbo group also said it would be a curse for its sons or daughter to promote any presidential aspirant that is not of Igbo extraction and described such people as saboteurs.

Meanwhile, ahead of the 2023 general elections, the PDP has commenced the screening of the 17 presidential aspirants at the Legacy House in Abuja.

The exercise started last Friday behind closed doors and was headed by the former Senate President David Mark.

Those present include the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike; former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim; former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; former Senate President Bukola Saraki; former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, amongst other aspirants.

Two aspirants whose identities were not disclosed were, however, disqualified.
