2023 Presidential Race: Umahi Joins Race

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, has indicated an interest in running for the 2023 presidential race.

He made his intention known to President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday in a closed-door meeting.

Umahi who spoke to State House Correspondents after the meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja said he has discussed the issue with Buhari, who gave him the go-ahead and seek support from his people.

The governor’s visit to the president comes barely 24 hours after Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, had a meeting with Buhari to notify discuss similar issues.

Umahi stressed that he is not distracted by Tinubu’s presence in the race, because the contest is not about might.

Recall that in November 2020, Umahi defected from Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling APC.

When asked what fate he has knowing  that other big political figures had also made their intentions known to run for the same seat, including Asiwaju Tinubu, the Governor said the decider of the race should be left in the hands of God 

 He added that he would stand a chance if the party throws the ticket open.

The Ebonyi Governor further stated that if given the opportunity to serve, he will ensure that he replicate his effort in Ebonyi, adding that he has a lot to show in running governance as a business.

Umahi also stated that when he met with the President, he discussed the political solutions in resolving the security challenges the Southeast region is facing.
