Actor Chiwetalu Agu finally released from DSS Custody

Nollywood Actor, Chiwetalu Agu who has been in detention for nearly one week, for allegedly wearing a “Biafran outfit” and inciting members of the public, has been released by the Department of Security Services (DSS).

Chiwetalu Agu was first arrested at Upper- Iweka, Onitsha, Anambra State, on Thursday, for wearing an outfit that the army said reflected the colours of the Biafran flag.

The actor had argued then that he had committed no offence, stating that he was merely wearing attire with the rising sun and distributing N10,000 worth of bread he had bought to feed the poor and hungry.

Agu was later handed over to the DSS by the army, who immediately transferred him to their headquarters in Abuja, where it was stated that Justice will be served.

The Actors Guild of Nigeria on Tuesday secured the release of the actor. A statement by the chambers revealed that Mr. Ozekhome had been briefed by the AGN and its officials to step into the matter and effect Agu’s release.

Agu was released to actors Steve Eboh and Monalisa Chinda (Director of Media, AGN), by the DSS at their headquarters in Abuja, after a reported search on his phones showed nothing incriminating.

This much was contained in a statement on the AGN’s official Instagram page titled, ‘Chiwetalu Agu released to Actors Guild Of Nigeria.’

The statement signed by the Director of Communication for the guild Monalisa Chinda, read, “The National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Ejezie Emeka Rollas, has yet again secured the release of Actor Chiwetalu Agu from the custody of the DSS.

“On behalf of the Guild, I was at the DSS office with my colleague, the Senior Special Assistant on Military Affairs and Inter-Governmental Relations to the President, Steve Eboh, to receive Mr. Agu today.

It said “The elated veteran actor thanked God for surviving the ordeal and commended the leadership of the Actors Guild of Nigeria headed by Ejezie Emeka Rollas for their relentless efforts in securing his release from the detention.”

After his release, Agu in the company of Eboh, later paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Ozekhome and his team of lawyers at his Abuja chambers, to thank them.
