Actress, Ruth Kadiri Laments After She Was ‘Overlooked’ At Eko Star Film Award

Nollywood actress and movie producer, Ruth Kadiri-Ezerika was bewailed after she was ‘overlooked’ at
the Eko Star Film & TV Awards. She however accused and blasted Mo Abudu, the Lagos State
Government, and others of this omission.

The Eko Star Film & TV Awards is organized annually to recognize and honour talented female pioneers
who call the shots in the growing Nigerian film industry.

A few celebrities who won the Eko Star Film & TV Awards 2021 series include Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde,
Nancy Isime, Omoni Oboli, Kate Henshaw, Toyin Abraham, Osas Ighodaro Etc, with the exception of Ruth
Kadiri, amidst her very active role and a strong fan base in the industry.

The actress who felt cheated and downcasted by this took to Instagram to express her disappointment.
She insisted that she wasn’t listed among the award winners not because she wasn’t hardworking or
diligent, but because she didn’t belong to any clique.

Expressing her disappointment, she wrote

“I am a filmmaker. I am a woman. I am a hard-working
woman. I have faced the struggles every woman/filmmaker has faced. Did my name at any point pop up
yes? But because I do not belong to a click (sic). Yet again I have been overlooked”.

She however congratulated those who made the awards and stated that she won’t yield to the
pressures surrounding her and will not relent in her endeavours.

“I will not be pressured. I will keep working hard. @lagosstategovt @moabudu @ijayonah @nifsummit
thanks for overlooking me and congrats to everyone who got recognized. the film industry is controlled
by women, so if you’re going to do it, do it right or don’t do it at all.”
