African-American Star Actress Cicely Tyson, Is Dead.

African-American star actress Cicely Tyson is dead. The actress, who has been acting for the past seven decades, died at the age of 96.

According to her manager “Larry Thompson,” in a statement released, he revealed that the award-winning actress died on Thursday afternoon, January 28.

Thompson said in a statement;

“With heavy heart, the family of Miss Cicely Tyson announces her peaceful transition this afternoon. At this time, please allow the family their privacy.”

“I have managed Miss Tyson’s career for over 40 years, and each year was a privilege and blessing. Cicely thought of her new memoir as a Christmas tree decorated with all the ornaments of her personal and professional life. Today she placed the last ornament, a Star, on top of the tree.”

Cicely Tyson was born in New York’s Harlem, December 19, 1924, to her Caribbean immigrant parents. Before her acting career, Tyson began as a model before going into acting.

She made her first movie appearance in 1957’s in the movie “Twelve Angry Men” in 1959, she became the next big name in the industry.

Tyson got married to jazz trumpeter Miles Davis in 1981, but their union ended in divorce in 1988. She is known to turning down roles that reinforce negative Black stereotypes, maids, and prostitutes. To her, those roles are demeaning to black women.

Cicely has been known for her extraordinary role in top Hollywood movies, like; “Sounder” (1972), “The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman” (1974), “Roots” (1977), “The Marva Collins Story” (1981), “The Women of Brewster Place” (1989), and “The Help” (2011), thriller “How to Get Away with Murder.” for “A Trip to Bountiful” Fried Green Tomatoes” and “The Help.” Etc.

Looking at her awards and recognition, she was the first African American woman to an honorary Oscar in November 2018.

In 2020, she was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame and was chosen to be inducted into the Television Academy’s Hall of Fame.

She has won loads of Emmy awards, Grammys, Oscars, Tonys Award, Golden Globe Awards, etc.

Though the cause of her death is yet to be known, her death drew lots of attention and tributes from top movie producers, directors, and actors in the movie industry.
