AMAA 2021: Funke Akindele & Rita Dominic lose the best actress to Joan Agaba, see full list

The 2021 African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) took place at Marriot Hotel, Lagos, Nigeria on Sunday, November 28, hosted by comedians Funnybone and Chigurl.

The prestigious award ceremony which is known for its recognition and celebration of African talents, saw top names emerge with highly-coveted categories.

Notably, Nollywood divas Funke Akindele-Bello and Rita Dominic both lost the best actress category to their Ugandan colleague Joan Agaba for her performance in ‘Torture’.

It is also worthy to note that Chuko and Arie Esiri‘s film “Eyimofe” won five awards including Achievement in Editing, Achievement in Sound and Best director at the award ceremony

Best Film: “The Gravedigger’s Wife” – Khadar Ahmed (Somalia)

Efere Ozako Award for Best Short Film – “Meat” (Uganda)

Jubril Malafia award for Best Animation – “Lady Buckit & the Motley Mopsters” (Nigeria)

Best Documentary – “Softie” (Kenya)

Best Diaspora Short Film – “Three Leaves” (Haiti)

Best Diaspora Documentary – “African Redemption: The Life of Marcus Garvey” (USA/Jamaica)
