Bayern Munich suffer the heaviest defeat in 43 years
Bayern Munich suffered their most humiliating defeat since in 43 years as they were thrashed 5-0 at Borussia Monchengladbach in the German Cup second round to knock them out of the competition.
Gladbach led went into the break with a stunning 3-0 lead and didn’t slow down after the break, as they went on to increase the deficit.
In what turned out to be Bayern’s worst outing in over four decades, Gladbach scored with five of their six shots on target, despite Bayern being the better side, overall.
It was only the second defeat Bayern, who named the first-choice team, have suffered under new manager, Julian Nagelsmann, who wasn’t in the dugout for ten games after testing positive for Covid-19, bringing an end to a run of scoring in 85 consecutive games.
Bayern last lost a game by a five-goal margin, in 1978, 43 years ago when Fortuna Dusseldorf beat them 7-1 in the Bundesliga, and this is their biggest defeat in a competition they have won a record 20 times, and the host couldn’t even believe their eyes.
