Breaking: Court Revokes Bail, Re-arrests and Remand Jaruma

The upper area court in Zuba, Abuja, has revoked the bail earlier granted to popular aphrodisiac seller, Hauwa Saidu Mohammed popularly known as Jaruma.

Presiding judge, Ismail Jibrin, ordered Nigerian Police to re-arrest Jaruma and remand her for Suleja Correctional Centre, Niger State.

It will be recalled that Jaruma was granted a N500,000 bail by an upper area court in Zuba, Abuja after spending four days in custody.

Her arrest and prosecution was petitioned by Ned Nwoko for allegedly defaming and libeling him and his family through peddling false allegations, claims, and hate speech.

Among others, Nwoko, through the petition, requested the Police to investigate Jaruma’s alleged selling of unlicensed and unauthorized love portion to unsuspecting members of the public and her claim that her local aphrodisiac called ‘Kayamata’ is responsible for the collapse of his marriage to his Moroccan wife, Ms. Charani.

In his ruling, the judge, Ismailia Abdullahi, ordered the defendant to produce one surety in like sum. He ordered that the surety must be a GL12 civil servant in the FCT and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction. She was later admitted to a N500,000 bail.

However, at the resumed hearing of the case on Wednesday, Jaruma was absent. The judge accused her of shunning the court despite being aware of the date of the hearing.

He said if not sanctioned, it would make a mockery of the Administration of Criminal Justice.

“The defendant knew today was for the case and she ignored the call to come to court.

By not taking any step, it would make a mockery of the legal system, going by the provision of Section 131 of the Administration of Criminal Justice and after listening to the submission of the prosecuting counsel, I hereby issue a bench warrant against the defendant in this case, one Hauwa Muhammed aka Jaruma and ordered the surety to come to court to explain why she shouldn’t be arraigned”, the judge stated.

The matter was adjourned till March 17, 2022.
