BREAKING: Veteran actor Victor Olaotan is Dead at 69 years

Nollywood has lost yet another talent, Victor Olaotan, known for his role as Fred Ade-Williams in the popular TV series, Tinsel.

Victor Olaotan was driving to a movie set in 2016 when he got involved in an accident that took place around Apple Junction, in Festac, Lagos and was bedridden for five years.

He had, until recently, been battling for his life in a Turkish hospital for almost three years. In 2018, the actor requested financial aid to facilitate his treatments outside the country. Shortly after, Nigerian billionaire, Femi Otedola, agreed to settle his bill of about N39m, which the actor’s wife confirmed was paid directly into the account of the hospital in Turkey.

The late actor was later flown back to Nigeria when his condition deteriorated and his family could no longer shoulder his medical expenses abroad. He battled with his health in Nigeria until he finally gave up the ghost after suffering a traumatic brain injury from the accident.

His widow, Julia Olaotan, broke the news of his death on Friday morning. Mrs Olaotan said she is grateful that the 69-year-old actor can finally go to rest after suffering for years.

“He has tried. It is not easy to be trapped in your own body for five years. He can finally rest now,” she said.

In an exclusive interview with The PUNCH, Julia Olatan, who had been relentlessly seeking support for the actor, appreciated The PUNCH and donors for helping her husband while battling for his life.

“Victor Olaotan has passed on, I don’t take the help rendered us for granted. Sadly, Olaotan had to come back to Nigeria because we could no more raise the money to continue treatment, so the hospital sent him back. I’m grateful for my husband’s life and I know all is well. Despite the challenges, God has been good to me and my family. He was there for five years,” she said tearfully.

Mr Olaotan featured in movies like “Love struck” as well as “Three Wise Men”, alongside Richard Mofe-Damijo and Zack Orji.
