Buhari Confers GCFR, GCON Honours on Tinubu, Shettima

The President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has been conferred with the Country’s highest National Honour Grand Commander of Order of Federal Republic, (GCFR) by the outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari on Thursday conferred the honour on Tinubu at the ongoing Investiture Ceremony in Abuja. Vice president-elect Shettima has been conferred with the GCON honour amid the reading of his citation. 

The historic event is being anchored by presidential spokesman Femi Adesina. The event starts with the Secretary of the Government of the Federation (SGF) addressing the gathering. President Buhari, VP Yemi Osinbajo, President-elect Tinubu, and his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, VP-elect Shettima and his wife, and others are present at the event. 

President Buhari also presented the transition documents and baton of service to the president-elect, Tinubu. 

President Buhari will on May 29, hand over to the President-Elect, Tinubu. Recall earlier that President Buhari had expressed his eagerness to hand over in the next few days and stay far away from Abuja.

Buhari has been under a lot of pressure to finish off his official obligations as well as the multitude of events planned for the inauguration.

The President was joined by Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha; the Minister of Defense, Major General Salihi Magashi; the Chief of Defense Staff General Lucky Irabor and the Service Chiefs at the close of the Regimental Dinner organised in his honour by the Armed Forces at the newly commissioned Nigerian Armed Forces Officers’ Mess, Asokoro, Abuja on Tuesday.

“Please, I will like to digress a bit from the prepared speech. I apologise most sincerely for keeping you waiting for about at least half an hour, actually, I can hardly cope with the pressure and I’m desperately looking forward to the next six days,” he said.

The GCFR honour comes as part of the Investiture Ceremony for the President-Elect and his Vice, Kashim Shettima.
