Bundesliga: Ruthless Bayern Whitewash Schalke in Season Opener

The Bundesliga is Back and the defending Champions have sent a very loud message to every team!

Four minutes of breathing space was all

Schalke 04 could lay hands on before getting totally battered with 8 goals by Bayern Munich in the 2020/2021 Bundesliga season curtain raiser at the Allianz Arena.

Gnabry scored in the fourth minute as he found space outside the box before curling home – and Bayern never looked back.

14 minutes later, Schalke 04’s former player, Leon Goretzka doubled the lead for the Bavarians.

Before half time, Lewandoski made it three, because, of course if Bayern is having a goal feast, then it’s incomplete without their last season’s highest goal scorer.

Barely two minutes after the break, Gnabry found the back of the net again and brought the tally to 4.

Because 4 goals doesn’t cut it for Bayern when the can score more, things simply went from bad to terrible for Schalke 04 as Gnabry got a hat-trick to make it 5 with Thomas Muller firing in the sixth goal off a fantastic assist from Lewandoski.

Former Manchester City forward, Jamal Musiala graced his Bayern Munich debut with a goal to bring the deficit to 7

And 17-year-old Jamal Musiala made it 8-0 in the  81 minute. It was a total resistance free demolition!

Hansi Flick’s side have won 22 games in a row.

Bayern’s record now reads 30 wins and one draw since their last defeat in any competition on 7 December. They won last season’s treble of Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League.

Schalke, in contrast, have not won in the Bundesliga since 17 January and lost seven of their nine games following the 2019-20 season restart.

This was the biggest victory any team have managed on the opening weekend of the Bundesliga.

Last season’s  triple winners clearly have another treble agenda in mind, that they’ve made very clear. We wait to see if it will materialize.

What do think of this Bayern side, will they be able to repeat the feats of last season?
