Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu professionally known as Burna Boy is making waves with his back to back achievements.
Burna boy launched his own cannabis brand in Miami, following a partnership with Jokes Up/ Ice Kream.
It is speculated that the brand is inspired by Burna Boy’s hit single “Last Last”, where he was served ‘BrkFst’.
The brand launch which coincided with Miami Carnival, started with a Pop Up from 12- 3, followed by brunch at a Miami Diner from 3:30-7.
There was also a team representing Burna Boy at the all-white-themed Tipsy Musical Festival at Bayfront Park, which he headlined.
The launch came a little over a year after the singer said the ban on cannabis in Nigeria is “dumb”.
In 2021, the House of Representatives began to consolidate Nigeria’s stance after it initiated legalisation moves.
But Buba Marwa, the chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), argued in October 2021 that cannabis cannot be legalised in Nigeria because of its level of abuse.
“We have seen narco-terrorism in countries like Colombia and Mexico, where drug cartels are a law unto themselves and are as powerful, if not more powerful than the state”.
However, Marijuana is still illegal in US federal law, even as individual states move toward legal use for recreation and medicine.
