Burna Boy’s mother makes Billboard’s 2021 International Power Players list

Burna Boy’s mother and manager, Bose Ogulu, has been named by Billboard as one of the 2021 International Power Players.

Billboard’s International Power Players list recognises leaders in the music industry on a global level. Honourees in the list include label executives, music publishers, independent entrepreneurs, artist managers and concert promoters.

Burna’s mother was honoured for the co-executive-production, release, and promotion of her son’s Twice As Tall album that went on to win a Grammy Award amidst the pandemic. 

In the list, Mama Burna stands with the likes of Simon Robson, President, International Warner Recorded Music, Warner Music Group; and Monica Cornia, Senior VP International Marketing, RCA Records and Arista Records, Sony Music Entertainment.

Asides from managing her son’s music career, Billboard revealed that Burna’s mum is the founder of a publishing company through Spaceship Collective to enable Africans to own their own catalogs. 

According to her: “So that the authenticity of our stories, our glory, our culture is sustained,” she says, “and we are empowered.”

Sharing the news with her Instagram fans and followers, Burna’s mother said she’s looking forward to breaking down more doors. As expected, social media users stormed her comment section to congratulate her on the new feat.

Bose had previously held a successful career as a translator for the Federation of West African Chambers of Commerce. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Languages, a Masters of Arts in Translation from the University of Port Harcourt, and speaks English, French, German, Italian, and Yoruba.
